yellows, kona cotton solids and a UFO, too!

i'm all done with my yellow and gold for March. in a fit of a brainstorm, i decided to start on the browns and blacks for November: my scrap jars are overflowing, and i enjoy having the mindless piecing of the crumb blocks at the end of a long day... (no pictures of the browns and blacks yet, but soon...)

but, here's the rest of my yellow projects for RSC22. (above) starting on the left of the design wall is the yellow blocks for my Two Step Quilt. Next are the framed 4 patches with Kona neutrals

(i didn't piece any yellow house blocks for March- with the Kona School Bus background fabric, there would not be enough contrast in the colors...)

the 1930's blocks on the right are an ancient UFO.( i belong to a Facebook group, UFOBingo, and it's helped me get some of my UFOs to the DONE pile!) This month is G-34, and that was my stack of 1930's reproduction blocks. (it's been in the UFO queue for YEARS now...)

this quilt was in the American Patchwork and Quilting magazine February 2007 edition.( I TOLD you it was an old UFO!) i thought it would make a beautiful quilt for baby BJ, and after she was born, we realized that the blue in the quilt perfectly matched her blue eyes...

anyway, there was SO MUCH fabric left, and i originally intended to make a matching quilt for our bed. (baby BJ shared our room for a while.) but it took me so long, and the baby grew up (she's 14 now!), we moved, and life just moved on while the blocks sat in a drawer in the sewing room. but February 2022 was the time- i got the blocks back out, sat down with my EQ5, and figured out how i wanted to put the blocks together.

there were so many blocks that i decided to make 2 quilts- very similar, but different. and actually, these are the first "round robin" quilts that i've ever done. EQ5 made the math *almost* painless, and i'm really happy with how they turned out. (both quilts are 76" square)

at the moment, i 'm thinking one of these quilts for B's bed, (eventually) and i'm undecided about the other one. it's a toss up between A, or my daughter-in-law, P. the{machine} quilting will be baptist fan.

the above square turned out too big for the center of the second quilt. instead of ripping it out and fixing the *bad math* i just made another center medallion. (which fit perfectly, thank goodness!)

so now all the blocks are used up (and giving me 2 baby/dolly quilts for my daughters or granddaughters) and a long-neglected UFO has moved forward with some serious progress!

so many quilts- all off the UFO list!

several Black Fridays ago, i purchased 2 FQ bundles of Good Neighbors fabric from Connecting Threads. the bundles sat for a while {ripening} while i pondered what i'd like to do with them.

Finally,  i decided on a churn dash block for one FQ bundle, and a 2by4 Block layout for the other.

(loosely based on the tutorial found here.) there's lots of these 2X4 quilts floating around in SM Land, and i do really like the pattern!

and above: a few close-up beauty shots of these quilts. the 2x4 is quilted with baptist fans, the churn dash is meandering circles.

both these quilts are destined for the Guest Room- one for the double bed, one for the twin. as soon as we actually have guests, that is...

i recently finished this 4 patch quilt- it's got a strong coffee vibe going on. i used 2 charm packs of Moda's Bistro, along with some Kona solids and other random, matching prints.

the 4th quilt shown has been done for a long time, ( i wrote about it here) but i just recently decided on a home for it. it's baby sized, and uses a Moda Bistro charm pack as well. i'm thinking to give these 2 quilts to my son N, and his to-be-born son, due in June. N is a coffee aficionado, buying and roasting his own beans. with a new baby boy on the way, i thought it might be fun for them to have "matching" quilts.

somebody to love me?

I, for one, am so glad that Cynthia is having her Quilty Orphan Adoption program again this year. it goes right along with my ImmaCleanOutMyHouseAndGetRidOfAlotOfTheCrapISeemedToAccumulateWithoutRealizingIt theme of this Lent season.

(i'm doing a List Of 40 Things I Can Clean, Purge, Sort or Donate for Lent. SUPER EXCITED: i'm on #24 as i type!!!)

The sewing room has not escaped my merciless super-good-intentions work sessions! i have 7 things to move along from there. 1 i've already shared, and 1 has been claimed, so here are my remaining 5 things i'd like to share/move/donate.

priority will be given to Charity Sewing/Donations, but whatever you do, it will be better than just sitting collecting dust in my house, so that will also be taken into consideration! i will be happy to mail these to you; i'll mail them for free, but if you want to send a bit-o-money back to help with postage, that would be appreciated!

#1- ADOPTED a Huge Pile of {mostly batik} strips. i think they're all 2 ½", and many seem to be parts of a jelly roll. i know i won't make anything with these, and batiks are not really my cup of tea. I think there are just about enough of the strips to fill up a large flat rate priority mail box. (but expect to do some ironing when you receive them!)

#2- ADOPTED this is a random assortment of mostly tan/beige/cream strips. they have been sorted into lengths, and maybe you can see the measurement on the green dot? i was (and still am) making the JuneQAL hosted by Amanda of Crazy Mom Quilts. i pulled these strips out, as i just wanted to use the white based fabrics..

#3-ADOPTED this quilt magically showed up on my front porch ages ago. it's a pretty neat quilt, but again: i obviously won't get to doing anything with it anytime soon. the measurements are 93" X 54". it's a mixture of really old fabric, and spans the ages through to feed sack fabric. the stars are pretty neat, but many of the points have been cut off. i suppose if you took the strips of green, blue or pink fabric out, that might improve matters some.

#4- ADOPTEDa brother to the magically appearing quilt above. mostly vintage fabrics. it's 84" X 52". Walker is my beagle {besides super cute, he's VERY LOUD! we adopted him last spring. i nevernevernever thought i'd be one of those dog people. but to the surprise of my children-and me!-i am...}

#5- ADOPTED this one really has to take the cake for Longest Ever UFO. but to be completely fair to myself, it's not really MY UFO. i've just been hauling it around with me for the last 33 years and 6 moves. yikes!

the DWR is started- 9 rings almost completely pieced. there are also the muslin centers (it was the 1980's, after all!) a few melons, MANY arcs and a few chain pieced wedges. there is also a little bit of purple, and some yardage of the aqua calico that was used in the 4 patch centers.

here's the note that i taped to the top of the pretzel can this sad UFO has been stored in- it's older than my oldest child! marily is the mother of an old friend, and she was an accomplished quilter. i was just starting out, and she had passed along some of her stash/unwanted items. i guess as a new quilter, i didn't want to tackle this project.

in conclusion- if you'd like to adopt and love any of my UFOs, please let me know. give me your mailing address, and i'll get these projects out to you as quick as i can! and thanks for stopping by!
