RSC16: quilts in progress

it's January, and that means a brand new year of RSC! this is my third year participating in Angela's RSC challenge, and I'm still having a ball! (What's RSC, you ask? each month, Angela chooses another color for the participants to work with, and we all make whatever we want in that month's color. some people make whole quilts, others just work on blocks in individual colors to be put together at the end of the year. )

and finally there are the granny squares. I've never made this block, but now that I've made a few, I can't imagine why not!  they combine my favorite thing (3" squares from my suitcase) and simple piecing, which allows me to focus on color. since I've been using these squares for a couple years now, the choices of colors that have 8 squares (for the outer ring) is getting slimmer and slimmer. so I guess that's a good thing, right? ha!
I still have crumb blocks to make, and I really like them as well. I've made several really super cool quilts from the humble crumb block, so that always keeps me inspired to make more.

Do you know what the block is for October? I can't seem to access RSC this weekend. Overcast day here in Milford, PA so I wanted to do some quilting.
