Everything is turning Brown!

after butchering all our (150+) meat chickens last week, I thought this week wouild be much less busy. ha! I could not have been more mistaken!

I did a *tiny* bit of canning and freezing this summer, but the huge bulk of my canning seems to have taken place this week: plum jelly- from our own plum tree (10 pints, plus some for gifts), 9 bushels of apples for sauce- (for 3 families) we got about 60 quarts, jalapeno jelly (14 pints, plus some for gifts) and green tomato relish (16 pints).

it was a week of chop, chop, chop. can, can, can. boil, boil, boil. phew! but now I'm almost done- just need to do the sauerkraut and stewed tomatoes.

I did have a chance to sew late Sunday afternoon and evening, and made some good progress:

I'm second guessing all my brown RSC15 blocks (are they too dull?) but am forging ahead anyway...

but: I love the sawtooth stars for the sampler! I'm WAAAAAAAY behind on the connecter blocks: as in have not even started them, but i'll get to them soon. ( I have the Kona white blocks cut; does that count?)

and here's Millie: my furry sewing room companion!

now go see what everybody else is doing with their browns!

It's so interesting to see the predominant shades of brown by each blogger. Yours are such a deep, dark brown!

Such rich dark browns you have. I think your blocks look great. They will add a nice touch to your rainbow quilts.

I have done a little canning and jam making here and there so I know the work involved...what you are doing is amazing. And you found time to sew ! :)

That's a LOT of canning - congratulations on all those popped down lids! Love your rich, dark browns (not dull - just standing alone without the other colors to perk them up).

You got a lot done this week! Sounds like the end is nearing though for taking care of the harvest. I think your brown blocks will make a wonderful contrast amongst all the other rainbow hues.

You have been busy! I have only just got round to cutting squares for the alternate blocks but they will be much quicker to put together than the sawtooth blocks so there is nothing to worry about.

I love your dark browns, mine are really on the dark side too (like--yummy --dark choc; I have a light choc one in the wings...) food, glorious food---hugs, Julierose ;--))))

So nice to know your family will have lots of yummy treats over the fall and winter months. The rich warm browns in your blocks are so comforting as the cooler weather sets in.

I think the browns will be fine! We used to raise chickens but kids left home and we quit but we still do a lot of canning all summer...anything from jams to spaghetti sauce and catsup!

You have been busy! Lots of canning and sewing! Beautiful rich dark chocolate browns. My brown fabrics are cream, light, medium and dark.

Whoa! Makes me glad our garden is a small one. We eat or freeze (or dehydrate) most of it. But your sewing progress is wonderful, and I particularly admire your furry supervisor. Where would we be without them?

Quite a collection you have, in addition to a full pantry. Sounds delicious. My Polish grandfather used to have all of us making sauerkraut each fall. I have never had any that good. Thanks for the memory!

You forgot the wash, wash, wash bit! LOL Such a lot of canning you've done. Now I gotta ask. When you say "canning" do you mean putting the preserves into tin cans? Or into glass jars? If its the latter, we would say "bottling", not "canning".

I am amazed by your industriousness! I'm sure the results are worth it! Homemade sauerkraut sounds wonderful!

I've only canned tomatoes this year, though that's still more than I did last year. You've been busy busy busy! Winter will certainly be tasty at your house.
I don't think your brown blocks are dull at all. How can anything the color of chocolate be dull?
